Ley Lines: Landscape, History & Belief

The modern idea of ley lines began with Alfred Watkins in the early twentieth century. He proposed that ancient sites and landscape features appeared to fall along straight alignments.

From alignments to “earth energy”

Later writers expanded the idea, describing ley lines as channels of spiritual or mysterious Earth energy. That energy interpretation is a later belief and has not been established by mainstream geophysics.

Why the idea remains interesting

Humans deliberately align roads, monuments, boundaries and sacred places, and people are also skilled at finding patterns in large sets of points. Ley lines can therefore be explored as cultural history, landscape interpretation and modern folklore without presenting an unverified energy network as scientific fact.
